The Larry Gaines Stop the Violence Organization Annual Food and Toy Drive helps residents of Camden who are unemployed, unskilled, at risk of homelessness, and the working poor.  Almost all toy and food products are donated to the program but at times some food is bought from LGSTV Board Members who use their own personal cash to make sure the baskets provide a balanced nutritional meal that consists of a protein (Turkey of course!), some type of vegetable or salad, a starch and when possible water and/ or dessert. That makes 100% of the donations go directly to those in need!

This year the LGSTV was able to serve 50 deserving families this year a home cooked thanksgiving meal.

The Ravitz Family Foundation was recognized for its support of a local boy suffering from Neuroblastoma. Earlier this year, Ravitz Family ShopRites teamed up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to give five-year-old Tyshon, his parents and brothers and sisters a special trip to the land where dreams come true – Disney World! Associates at the five Ravitz family-owned ShopRites in Cherry Hill, Marlton, and Mount Laurel helped to collect more than $18,000 for the Camden County-based family.

The Outstanding Foundation award was presented to the Ravitz family at the Charter Philanthropy Day Awards breakfast reception at the Mansion on Main Street in Voorhees, New Jersey on Thursday, November 17^th.

“Partnering with Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey has been a great experience for our family and our associates,” said Shawn Ravitz, vice president of Administration, ShopRite Supermarkets of Cherry Hill. “We are honored to work with them to raise funds for local families in need and to bring smiles to the faces of children like Tyshon.”

From Generation to Generation…

Through the Ravitz Family Foundation, generations of the Ravitz’s have been aiding children and families in need in Southern New Jersey since 1996.  The Ravitz family – owners of Supermarkets of Cherry Hill, Inc., which operates five ShopRite supermarkets in the area – generously support local charitable organizations, religious groups, schools and members of the community.  Through their passion and dedication to helping others, the Ravitz’s have made making a difference in the lives of their neighbors a “family affair”.

The Ravitz Family Foundation hosted a month-long coat collection during the holidays to help local children and families in need.  New and gently-used coats were donated by loyal customers at Ravitz family-owned ShopRite stores located in Cherry Hill, Marlton, and Mount Laurel, NJ.

This marks the third consecutive year the Ravitz family has staged a winter coat drive at its ShopRite stores.  This year’s drive had a record collection of 2,500 coats!

All generously donated coats will be delivered to the United Way of Burlington County (http://www.uwburlington.org/) and the United Way of Camden County (http://www.uwccnj.org/ ) for distribution to local families in need.

“Every year, the generous spirit of our customers allows us to help our neighbors,” said Shawn Ravitz, Vice President of Administration, ShopRite Supermarkets of Cherry Hill.  “We are so proud to lend a hand in any way we can and we thank our loyal associates and customers for their continued help and support.”

ShopRite and the RFF kick off their annual coat drive for the needy!!

Winter coats are being collected for the needy at several South Jersey ShopRite locations in Burlington and Camden counties beginning Sunday. The month-long coat drive, hosted by the Ravitz Family Foundation, is aimed at helping local children and families.

New and gently-used coats will be accepted at Ravitz family-owned ShopRite stores located in Marlton, Mount Laurel and Cherry Hill from Sunday through Dec. 24.

All donated coats will be delivered to the United Way of Burlington County and the United Way of Camden County for distribution to local families in need. This year, marks the third year for the coat drive. More than 2,400 coats have been collected in past drives.

“We are asking our customers to take the time to look through their closets for coats they are no longer using and providing collection points at our stores. Together we’ll be able to help many children and families in our area stay warm this winter ,” said Shawn Ravitz, vice president of administration, ShopRite Supermarkets of Cherry Hill. “We’re proud to be able to lend a hand in any way we can.”

It was a beautiful late-spring day… perfect for golf.  The foundation was able to raise over $100,000 through the generosity of our corporate sponsors and the hard work of our volunteers selling raffle tickets and promoting the silent auction booth.

The beneficiaries of the day included the Cherry Hill Education Foundation, Evesham Education Foundation, and Winning Ways/One Child Saved Foundation.

Don Tollefson has spent his entire career as a broadcaster trying to make the Delaware Valley a better place, but nothing exemplifies this better than his Winning Ways/One Child Saved Foundation.  One Child Saved is a foundation that preaches non-violence, love, and career motivation for our inner-city youth.

The local political and economical environment has only put more pressure on our local school districts.  The Ravitz Family Foundation is proud to support the Education Foundations of Evesham and Cherry Hill Townships.

The Cherry Hill Education Foundation purpose is to provide resources to enhance positive programs for students, while partnering with the schools and the community in the pursuit of excellence.  The RFF was able to help fund the building of the new tennis courts at Cherry Hill East (http://east.cherryhill.k12.nj.us/docs/paver_brochure.pdf).   The Cherry Hill Education Foundation has also provided dozens of computers and smartboards, as well as athletic equipment to many of the Cherry Hill schools.  For information, http://www.cherryhilleducationfoundation.com/

The evening would not have been complete without a solid game of Texas Hold ‘Em poker.  The game was won by John Hellwarth of Penn Jersey Paper who barely edged out John Bock of Herrs Foods to claim the 2010 Poker Title.  Congratulations John!
