2009 Winter Event at Cafe Aldo Lamberti’s

The Ravitz Family Foundation held its annual Winter Event at Cafe Aldo Lamberti’s in Cherry Hill, NJ on December 17, 2009.  Almost 100 guests enjoyed a wonderful night of great food, drinks, poker, and some heartwarming stories of a few individuals doing some phenomenal things in our community.  The Foundation was able to raise over $70,000 through sponsorships, silent auctions, and the evening raffles.

The Foundation was pleased to grant David Akers’ Kicks for Kids Foundation $10,000 toward his David’s Locker program.   The program supports families with unexpected emergency needs from extended hospitalization of a loved one.   For more information, check out http://www.davidakerskicksforkids.org/davidslocker/.

The foundation also recognized Jenny Silver of Cherry Hill, NJ.  Jenny, who is only 13 years old, has organized a foundation called Bowling for Bears.  Bowling for Bears raises money to purchase teddy bears from Build-A-Bear for children who are hospitalized at CHOP and others who are in need.   Bowling for Bears received a $3000 grant from the Ravitz Family Foundation in 2009 for their work in the community.  A special thanks to LynMar Construction for matching the foundations pledge to Bowling for Bears, and Jeff Brown, NFI, for graciously providing transportation support to Bowling for Bears.   For more information, check out http://www.bowlingforbears.org/Bowling_for_Bears/Home.html

The evening would not have been complete without a solid game of Texas Hold ‘Em poker.  The game was won by ShopRite’s own, Glenn Scattergood.  He outlasted Ray Nemeth, Herrs Foods, and John Hellwarth, Penn Jersey Paper, to claim the 2009 Winter Event title.  Congratulations Glenn.

Thank you to our event sponsors who have consistently supported the Foundation’s mission to aid children and families in need.
